Can anyone shed some light on how to scale up the patterns with the little boxes?

For example on [livejournal.com profile] koshka_the_cat 's site http://www.koshka-the-cat.com/1880rpattern0.html
None of the costume books I have show them like that and aside from a few ideas I'm drawing blanks on it.

Do I need to scale them up till the box is the size of an inch, or does it mean I multiply the measurements of the print out by 4?

Each of the little boxes should be 1" (1 square inch.) So the one that has a 4 box length, is 4" x 1". So if you have an enlarger, you should get the right size if you scale up the boxes to 1". Don't forget Katherine is one of the "little people", so you may then need to enlarge the pattern. Phew, sorry, long winded and repetitive!

Suzi explained it well :)

The original bodice fit me perfectly in back, too big in the chest and too small in the waist. Very easy adjustments, fortunately!

Please let me know if you have any questions!
